Our mission is to foster collaboration and support the Art, Design, and Visual Studies Department's curriculum by providing hands-on resources for art students, artists, and the University community. The Barbara D. Goodman Art Gallery is located on the first floor of the Archbishop Alemany Library.

For more than a decade, a quiet experiment has been unfolding in an old Palo Alto school, where former classrooms have found a second life as studios and a community of artists has taken root. Selected by a jury of their peers, artists are given something increasingly rare in the Bay Area: affordable, long-term studio space.
What happened next? They opened their doors, inviting the public in through workshops, exhibitions and programs. They became part of the community, and the community became part of their practice.
But the conversations didn’t stop at the studio doors. A handful of artists began gathering around a table, sharing work, wine, ideas and opportunities. They kept coming back on the last Tuesday of each month, and somewhere along the way, The Last Tuesday Group was born. They began inviting artists, curators and gallerists in, sparking new conversations and connections.
What connects this group is not a shared aesthetic, but a relational ethos of curiosity, generosity and the belief that art gets more interesting when ideas are exchanged rather than guarded. The group spans generations, cultures and identities, with artists from Japan, Iceland, Australia, Ireland, Greece, Canada, Iran and the U.S., including LGBTQ+ and BIPOC voices.
Their exhibition, "Held / Together," invites the audience directly into that exchange. Visitors can gather around Martha Sakellariou’s table, step inside Tara de la Garza’s meditation booth and marvel at the individual leaves of Charlotta Hauksdottir’s reconstructed natural world. The showcase entangles viewers in Robin Mullery’s web of wire and words, while Jaya Griscom weaves the topography of the human body. Elizabeth Bennett rearranges familiar language until we see it anew, and Adrienne Defendi traces the imprint of hair, absence and memory.

Supported by Academic Affairs, our mission is to encourage community involvement and increase artistic dialogue among the community and faculty, students, and staff of Dominican.
The Community Gallery is located on the second floor of the Archbishop Alemany Library.
